Sherborne Castle – Environmental Controls

Sherborne Castle is a 16th-century Tudor mansion located in the town of Sherborne in Dorset. The 1,200-acre park forms only a small part of the 15,000-acre Digby estate.

The Castle is privately owned and has been Home to the Digby Family for over 400 years and contains many fine works of art and fine furniture.

The existing heating system dates from the early 1900’s and consists of two large gas fired boilers serving a series of predominantly cast iron column radiators. The boilers were installed in 2006 and the radiators along with the main distribution pipework are considered to be in excess of 60 years old. The purpose of the works was to provide and install environmental controls in selected show rooms using the conservation heating’ principle to maintain control of relative humidity (RH).

The Installation works comprised of stripping down and flushing through the old radiators & heating service. Installing new 2-port solenoid valves to be controlled via humidity controlled thermostats located within each room, over 3-phases over 3-years.
